Butterfly Bush

Buddleja davidii 'Reve Papillon Pink' – Vibrant, Butterfly-Attracting Pink Blooms for Stunning Gardens

Buddleja davidii 'Reve Papillon Pink', commonly known as the Butterfly Bush, is a stunning deciduous shrub that adds vibrant colour and attracts wildlife to any garden. With its striking pink flower spikes, this variety of Buddleja offers an eye-catching display that lasts throughout the summer and into autumn. Known for its ability to attract butterflies and pollinators, it is the perfect choice for wildlife gardens, mixed borders, and cottage-style gardens. Whether used as a focal point or in mass plantings, 'Reve Papillon Pink' is sure to brighten any outdoor space.

Seasonal Beauty & Growth

  • Spring: New growth emerges with lush green foliage, setting the stage for a spectacular flowering season.
  • Summer: Clusters of vibrant pink flowers appear in long, arching spikes, creating a stunning contrast with the rich green leaves. These flowers are a favorite of butterflies and other pollinators.
  • Autumn: The flowers continue to bloom into autumn, with the shrub keeping its colorful display until the first frosts.
  • Winter: After flowering, the plant's structure provides visual interest, with its distinctive branches and compact form standing out in the winter garden.

Structure & Form

  • Height & Spread: Grows to about 1.5–2.5m in height and spread, making it ideal for mid to back borders or as a feature plant in garden beds.
  • Flowers: The pink flower spikes appear in abundance during summer, creating a cascading effect that lasts well into autumn.
  • Foliage: The shrub features dark green lance-shaped leaves, providing a striking contrast to the pink blooms.
  • Growth Habit: A compact, bushy form that maintains a well-rounded structure, perfect for creating a vibrant hedge or screen.

Perfect for Various Landscapes

  • Wildlife Gardens: As a butterfly magnet, this plant is ideal for attracting butterflies and pollinators, adding both beauty and function to your garden.
  • Mixed Borders: A striking addition to mixed borders, where it can stand out with its beautiful blooms and add height and colour to the planting scheme.
  • Cottage Gardens: Perfect for informal garden styles, adding a natural, relaxed feel with its bushy growth and colorful blooms.
  • Hedges & Screens: Excellent for creating a low-maintenance hedge or screen that offers seasonal interest and a burst of colour.
  • Urban Gardens & Courtyards: With its compact size, it works well in smaller spaces such as urban gardens or courtyards, adding drama without overwhelming the space.

Growing Conditions & Care

  • Position: Prefers full sun for the best flowering display but can tolerate partial shade. More sunlight leads to more prolific blooms.
  • Soil: Thrives in well-drained soil and prefers slightly alkaline to neutral pH. Tolerates a variety of soil types, though it flourishes in rich, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Fully hardy in most regions, it can withstand cold winters and moderate frosts, although it may die back in harsher climates, regrowing in spring.
  • Maintenance: Low-maintenance – prune the shrub back in late winter or early spring to maintain its shape and encourage fresh growth. Deadheading spent flowers can also help promote more blooms.
  • Watering: Drought-tolerant once established, but regular watering during the growing season will ensure the plant stays healthy and vibrant.
  • Feeding: Feed with a general-purpose fertilizer in the spring to promote strong growth and abundant blooms throughout the season.
