Cytisus or Broom

Cytisus or brooms are deciduous or evergreen shrubs which originate from Europe and Africa. They have palm shaped leaves which are mid-green in colour. Cytisus can become leafless as they mature emphasizing the beautiful flowers. Flowers are pea like and can be highly fragrant. They are followed by mid-green, downy seed pods which can be sown in autumn or spring to propagate.

Where to Site Your Cytisus

Beautiful, unusual shrubs, that need a good sunny spot in the garden, best situated in the middle, apart from the masses of brightly coloured flowers they just sit looking nice bright green.

How to Grow and Look After you Cytisus

Cytisus are ideally grown in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in a shrub border. Can thrive in poor soil. They can be used as ground cover to minimise the need for weeding.
