Dryopteris are tufted ferns that can be evergreen, semi evergreen or deciduous. They do go by a few different names such as Male fern, basket fern or shield fern.

They have beautiful tactile foliage and are used for adding structure to the borders.

Dryopteris will grow to around 1.5 meters tall and 1 meter wide if left untouched

Dryopteris are perfect for shaded areas of the garden, under planting trees. They do look well in cottage gardens with the airy perennials surrounding them. Or rockeries.

How to Grow and Look After you Dryopteris

Easy to grow but needs to be kept well-watered at first till it gets established also benefits from a good mulching in its first season, very good to grow in the shade

Pruning is not required unless you are removing dead leaves
