Verbena Lollipop 2 Litre Pot

Verbena 'Lollipop' is a vibrant, sun-loving perennial that brings a long season of bold colour to gardens, borders and containers. Producing dense, rounded clusters of vivid flowers in rich shades of pink, purple, red and white, this compact and free-flowering variety blooms tirelessly from spring through to autumn. Its trailing to mounding habit makes it equally at home spilling over the edges of raised beds and pots as it is tucked into the front of a sunny border, delivering reliable, eye-catching colour wherever it is planted.

Habit and appearance

Compact and floriferous. Verbena 'Lollipop' forms a neat, mounding to slightly trailing habit with slender, branching stems clothed in finely toothed, mid-green foliage. The flowers are borne in tight, dome-shaped clusters held proudly above the foliage, creating a lollipop-like effect that gives the variety its charming name. It blooms prolifically over an exceptionally long period, making it one of the hardest-working perennials in a summer garden.

Growing conditions

Full sun and free-draining soil. Verbena 'Lollipop' thrives in a position that receives full sun for the majority of the day. It performs best in well-drained to moderately fertile soil and is notably tolerant of dry conditions once established, making it an excellent choice for hot, exposed spots where other plants may struggle. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soils, as good drainage is essential for long-term health and vigour. It is well suited to raised beds, sloped garden beds, rockeries and container plantings.

Care

Low maintenance with a few key tasks. Water regularly during the establishment period, then reduce frequency as the plant settles in, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser at the start of the growing season to encourage strong flowering, and supplement with a liquid feed every few weeks during peak bloom to keep flowers coming. Deadhead spent flower clusters regularly to promote continuous blooming and prevent the plant from setting seed prematurely.

Pruning

Cut back to encourage fresh growth. Verbena 'Lollipop' benefits from a light trim mid-season if growth becomes straggly or flowering starts to slow. Cutting stems back by around one third will rejuvenate the plant, encouraging a fresh flush of foliage and flowers. At the end of the growing season, cut the plant back hard and apply a light mulch over the root zone to protect it through winter. In cooler climates, it may be grown as an annual or overwintered in a frost-free position.
