Ceanothus ‘Yankee Point’ – Spreading Californian Lilac for Ground Cover and Banks
Ceanothus ‘Yankee Point’ is a distinctive, low-growing evergreen shrub, prized for its wide-spreading habit and profusion of deep blue flowers. In late spring to early summer, it becomes smothered in dense clusters of vivid blooms, creating a striking carpet of colour that attracts bees and other pollinators.
Unlike more upright varieties, ‘Yankee Point’ forms a broad, mounding shape, spreading several metres while remaining relatively low in height. This makes it particularly effective as ground cover, for stabilising banks, or softening the edges of borders and walls.
The small, glossy dark green leaves provide year-round structure and contrast beautifully with the intense blue flowers. Its naturally arching growth creates a relaxed, flowing appearance, ideal for informal planting schemes.
Well suited to sunny, sheltered positions, it thrives in free-draining soil and is particularly effective in coastal gardens, where it tolerates wind and drier conditions once established.
Fast growing and low maintenance, it requires only light pruning after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage fresh growth.
Spreading, vibrant, and highly effective, Ceanothus ‘Yankee Point’ is an excellent choice for covering ground quickly while delivering a bold seasonal display.
