Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ – The Elegant Columnar Cherry
Prunus ‘Amanogawa’, also known as the Flagpole Cherry, is a striking ornamental tree celebrated for its narrow, upright habit and spectacular spring flowers. It’s the perfect choice for gardens where space is limited but beauty is a priority, offering vertical elegance without spreading too wide.
In mid to late spring, the tree bursts into bloom with large, semi-double, soft shell-pink flowers brushed with deeper pink towards the base of each petal. These highly fragrant blooms cluster densely along the stems, creating a breathtaking vertical cascade of blossom that draws pollinators and admiration alike.
After the blossom fades, fresh green foliage takes centre stage, providing a fresh and calming backdrop through summer. Come autumn, the leaves transform into warm shades of orange, gold, and red, adding a final flourish before the bare, upright branches bring winter structure to the garden.
