Laurus nobilis 1/2 Standard – Classic Bay Tree with Elegant Topiary Form
Laurus nobilis, commonly known as Bay Laurel, is a timeless evergreen valued for both its aromatic foliage and elegant structure. Trained as a half standard, this form features a clear stem topped with a neatly clipped rounded head of glossy green leaves, creating a refined architectural plant ideal for patios and formal gardens.
The deep green leaves are highly fragrant and widely used in cooking, making this plant both ornamental and practical. When brushed or harvested, the foliage releases the familiar rich bay scent that has been valued in kitchens for centuries.
Half standard bay trees are particularly effective when placed in decorative containers beside entrances, along pathways, or framing doorways. They also work beautifully in formal planting schemes where their sculptural form adds structure and balance.
Thriving in full sun or partial shade, Laurus nobilis prefers well-drained soil and a sheltered position. In colder areas, container-grown plants can be moved to a protected location during severe winter weather.
Elegant, versatile, and wonderfully aromatic, Laurus nobilis 1/2 standard is a classic choice for adding year-round structure and Mediterranean character to UK gardens.
