Hydrangea are deciduous shrubs and climbers. They are grown for their beautiful flowers that last throughout the Summer and Autumn. Hydrangea leaves are narrowly ovate and change colour through Autumn from green to orange-brown. Woody hydrangeas like a moist root run and perform well in all soils. The also don't mind being shaded or in a woody habitat. Flower heads can be dried and used in flower arrangements or they can be left on through the Winter so the frost can make them sparkle
Hydrangea Villosa commonly known as the mountain hydrangea or villous hydrangea, is an excellent choice for gardeners looking to add beauty and diversity to their landscapes. This species is characterized by its unique features, adaptability, and ornamental value.
Hydrangea villosa produces attractive clusters of flowers that can be either blue or pink, depending on the soil pH. The large, round flower heads are visually striking and add a vibrant touch to the garden. The flowers typically bloom from mid-summer to fall, providing a prolonged display of color that enhances the garden during the warm months. The plant features dark green, serrated leaves that provide a beautiful backdrop for the flowers. The foliage adds texture and interest to the landscape. In autumn, the leaves may turn attractive shades of yellow or bronze, adding seasonal interest even after the flowers have faded.
Villosa is less susceptible to winter damage compared to other hydrangea varieties, ensuring reliable flowering year after year. Requires minimal maintenance once established. It doesn’t require extensive pruning; a light shaping in late winter or early spring is sufficient. This species is generally resistant to common pests and diseases, making it easier to grow and maintain compared to other hydrangea varieties. This hydrangea species is well-suited for partial to full shade conditions, making it ideal for planting in woodland gardens, shady corners, or other areas where sunlight is limited.
Hydrangea villosa can be used effectively in borders, mixed flower beds, or as part of a privacy hedge. Its bushy growth habit makes it an excellent choice for creating natural screens. This variety can also be grown in containers, making it a suitable option for patios, balconies, or smaller garden spaces.
Does the height include the pot?
