Hydrangea are deciduous shrubs and climbers. They are grown for their beautiful flowers that last throughout the Summer and Autumn. Hydrangea leaves are narrowly ovate and change colour through Autumn from green to orange-brown. Hydrangea prefer to be in partial shade and thrive best in fertile well-drained soil.
Annabelle' hydrangeas are famous for:
-
Annabelle blooms from June to September, providing a long season of interest during summer. The flower heads are massive, typically reaching up to 25 cm (10 inches) in diameter. The blooms start as a soft green, maturing to a creamy white, and eventually fading to light green or brown as they age. Each flower head consists of numerous tiny, sterile flowers packed tightly together, forming a striking, rounded shape. These blooms are often referred to as "snowballs" due to their size and shape.
-
Leaves: The leaves are large, oval, and bright green, growing up to 20 cm (8 inches) long. They provide lush, attractive foliage throughout the growing season. While the leaves don't develop significant autumn color, they remain attractive until they drop in late autumn.
- Height can reach 1.5m
Hydrangea Annabelle grows well in full sun or partial shade, making it versatile enough for different garden spots. However, it often performs best in partial shade, where it gets some sunlight but is protected from the heat of the day. Prefers rich, well-drained soils, it can tolerate a range of soil conditions, including clay or loamy soils, as long as they’re not waterlogged. Adding organic matter like compost can help boost its performance.
It is suitable for gardens in colder climates where many other hydrangeas might struggle. Even after harsh winters, it reliably blooms because it produces flowers on new wood (current season's growth). Because 'Annabelle' blooms on new wood, even if its stems die back in winter, the plant will still produce flowers the following year.
Hydrangea Annabelle are low maintenance, requiring very little attention once established. They don’t need frequent pruning, aside from removing dead stems or shaping the plant in early spring. this variety is generally pest-resistant and doesn’t suffer from many of the common diseases that affect other plants, making it an easy choice for novice and experienced gardeners alike.
Does the height include the pot?
No, we measure from the top of the pot to the tip of the plant except for some of the instant planted screens, in this case it will be stated in the description
