About Garrya Elliptica James Roof 3 Litre Pot

Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’

Elegant evergreen shrub with dramatic winter catkins

Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’ is a striking evergreen shrub known for its long, silvery catkins that drape from the branches in late winter. These tassel-like catkins, sometimes reaching up to 20cm, bring impressive interest during the colder months when little else is in flower.

Its leathery, dark green leaves form a dense, bushy shape, making it an excellent choice for hedging, screening or as a feature plant. This variety is especially hardy and wind-tolerant, thriving in sun or partial shade in well-drained soil.

Key Features:

  • Long, silvery catkins in late winter

  • Evergreen, leathery foliage for year-round cover

  • Excellent for screening, hedging or wall training

  • Hardy and coastal-tolerant

  • Low maintenance once established

Growing Conditions:

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade; sheltered from cold winds

  • Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil

  • Hardiness: Hardy throughout most of the UK

  • Maintenance: Prune lightly after catkins fade to shape

Garrya ‘James Roof’ is a smart choice for winter impact and all-year structure – perfect for low-maintenance gardens with style.
