About Fagus sylvatica 'Dawyck Purple' - Purple Upright Beech 3 Litre Pot

Fagus sylvatica 'Dawyck Purple'

A magnificent columnar beech combining architectural form with sumptuous purple foliage, creating year-round drama without demanding excessive space.

Seasonal Highlights

Spring unfolds with rich crimson-purple new growth that deepens through summer. In autumn, leaves take on coppery tones before turning warm russet-brown, often persisting through winter to provide structure and movement.

Key Features

  • Elegant narrow upright form perfect for restricted spaces
  • Deep purple-red foliage from spring through summer
  • Coppery autumn tones and russet winter interest
  • Retains dried leaves through winter months
  • Fully hardy and tolerates a range of soils

Perfect For

Superb as a dramatic focal point, in formal gardens, beside driveways, or within mixed borders where vertical accent and rich colour are needed. Ideal for smaller gardens requiring height without spread.

Growing Tips

Plant in well-drained, fertile soil in full sun or partial shade; best purple colour develops in sunnier positions. Tolerates chalk and clay. Minimal pruning required. Mulch annually and water during dry spells until established.

Looks Great With

Stunning alongside silver-leaved plants like Elaeagnus 'Quicksilver', golden conifers such as Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata Aurea', and underplanted with Epimedium or Heuchera.

A striking tree that delivers bold colour and elegant structure to any landscape.
