A fast-growing evergreen tree renowned for its stunning blue-grey juvenile foliage and aromatic leaves. Can be grown as a tall tree or regularly coppiced to maintain compact size and preserve the beautiful young foliage.
Rounded blue-grey juvenile leaves transition to longer sage-green adult foliage. Attractive cream-coloured bark peels to reveal fresh new layers. White flowers may appear in summer on mature specimens.
Specimen trees, screening, or coppiced shrubs in mixed borders. Foliage excellent for cutting and floral arrangements. Works well in contemporary and cottage garden styles.
Plant in well-drained soil in full sun. Shelter from cold winds when young. Coppice annually or biennially in early spring to maintain compact size and juvenile foliage. Water during establishment; very drought tolerant once established.
Grasses, silver-foliaged plants, Phormium, and Mediterranean shrubs. The blue-grey foliage provides excellent contrast to purple and burgundy-leaved plants.
A versatile and architectural evergreen that brings year-round interest and aromatic beauty to the garden.
