How to Grow and Care for Your Echinacea ‘Orange Shades’
Soil – Prefers well-drained soil and can tolerate poor, sandy, or dry conditions once established.
Light – Requires full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day) for best flowering.
Watering – Water regularly when young, but once established, it is drought-tolerant and thrives with minimal watering.
Maintenance:
-
Deadhead for Extended Blooming – Removing faded flowers encourages continuous blooms into autumn.
-
Leave Some Seed Heads for Winter Interest – The dried flower heads provide food for birds and add structure to the winter garden.
-
Cut Back in Early Spring – Trim back old growth in early spring to allow fresh shoots to emerge.
-
Divide Every Few Years – To maintain vigour, divide clumps in spring or autumn if plants become overcrowded.
Perfect Plant Combinations
Echinacea ‘Orange Shades’ pairs beautifully with Rudbeckia, Salvia, Verbena bonariensis, Eryngium, and ornamental grasses like Stipa and Panicum. For a warm, sunset-inspired border, mix with deep reds, golden yellows, and rich purples.
