Cyclamen persicum 'Dragon Deep Blue' is a striking florist's cyclamen bearing richly coloured, deep blue-violet blooms held elegantly above a mound of beautifully marbled, heart-shaped foliage. A perennial favourite for adding sophisticated colour indoors and in sheltered spots outdoors, this cyclamen delivers a long and rewarding display through the cooler months of the year.

Habit & Appearance

Flowers & foliage. The swept-back petals of 'Dragon Deep Blue' are produced in abundance, their deep violet-blue tones making a bold statement whether displayed alone or grouped with other seasonal plants. The decorative silver-patterned, dark green leaves are attractive in their own right and remain ornamental long after individual flowers have finished. This compact, neat-growing cyclamen forms a tidy mound, making it equally suited to windowsills, shelves, and container displays.

Growing Conditions

Position. Cyclamen persicum thrives in bright, indirect light. Indoors, a cool, well-lit room away from direct sunlight and heat sources — such as radiators or draughty windowsills — will keep it at its best. If used outdoors during mild spells, choose a sheltered spot in partial shade. This cyclamen is not frost hardy and should always be protected from freezing temperatures.

Soil & watering. Use a well-drained, peat-free compost and water carefully, keeping the compost consistently moist but never waterlogged. Watering from below — by standing the pot in a saucer of water for a short time and then allowing it to drain fully — helps avoid rotting the crown and tuber. Good drainage is essential.

Care

Feeding & maintenance. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser every two to three weeks while the plant is in active growth and flower. Remove spent blooms and yellowing leaves promptly by twisting and pulling them cleanly from the base rather than cutting, which helps prevent rotting and encourages further flowering.

After flowering. Once blooming finishes, gradually reduce watering and allow the foliage to die back naturally. Store the dormant tuber in a cool, dry place over summer, then repot and resume watering in late summer or early autumn to encourage a fresh season of growth and flowers.
