Crocosmia 'Lucifer' – Fiery Red Drama for Bold Summer Borders
Crocosmia 'Lucifer' is a striking herbaceous perennial prized for its arching spires of vibrant, flame-red flowers and upright sword-like foliage. One of the most dramatic Crocosmia cultivars, ‘Lucifer’ brings an exotic flair to garden borders with its bold colour and strong architectural form. Perfect for adding late-summer intensity, it attracts pollinators and contrasts beautifully with ornamental grasses and darker foliage.
Seasonal Beauty & Growth
Spring:
In spring, bold, upright fans of bright green, pleated leaves emerge, forming an attractive vertical element even before flowering begins.
Summer:
From mid- to late summer, tall arching stems carry brilliant red, trumpet-shaped flowers in succession. The display is both fiery and graceful, creating a bold focal point. Beloved by bees and hummingbirds (where present), these blooms provide drama and movement to the garden.
Autumn:
After flowering, the seed heads add structural interest, and the foliage begins to yellow, adding warm tones to the autumn landscape. Flower spikes can be left for winter silhouette or cut for a tidier look.
Winter:
Foliage dies back completely after the first frost. Mulching in colder areas helps protect the underground corms, ensuring reliable return in spring.
