A deciduous shrub with a unique herringbone branching pattern that creates striking architectural form. Pink-tinged white flowers appear in early summer, attracting beneficial insects, before giving way to abundant bright red berries that persist into winter.
Training against walls and fences, groundcover on banks, rock gardens, front of borders, and wildlife gardens. Self-supporting when grown against walls, making it ideal for covering unsightly surfaces.
Plant in any well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Adapts to most conditions including poor soils and exposed sites. Minimal pruning required; trim after flowering if needed to maintain shape. Naturally spreads horizontally creating excellent coverage.
Combines beautifully with climbing roses, Clematis, spring bulbs, Sedum, and ornamental grasses. The autumn berries coordinate with late-flowering Aster and the fiery tones of Acer.
A classic cottage garden plant offering exceptional value with its unique form, wildlife benefits, and stunning seasonal displays.
