About Cotinus coggygria Ruby Glow 3 Litre Pot

Cotinus coggygria ‘Ruby Glow’

Compact smoke bush with deep purple foliage and summer ‘smoke’ plumes

Cotinus ‘Ruby Glow’ is a compact deciduous shrub with rich, wine-red to purple foliage that turns fiery red and orange in autumn. In summer, it produces soft, airy panicles of pinkish flower plumes, giving the appearance of a smoky haze—hence the name "smoke bush".

Smaller and more manageable than traditional varieties, ‘Ruby Glow’ is ideal for borders, mixed shrub planting, or as a striking stand-alone feature. It thrives in sunny positions and requires little maintenance.

Key Features:

  • Deep purple foliage turning vivid red-orange in autumn

  • Airy, smoke-like flower plumes in summer

  • Compact habit, perfect for smaller gardens

  • Adds colour, texture, and seasonal drama

  • Drought-tolerant and easy to care for

Growing Conditions:

  • Position: Full sun for best colour and flowering

  • Soil: Well-drained soil; tolerates poor conditions

  • Hardiness: Fully hardy across the UK

  • Maintenance: Prune in late winter to maintain size and shape

Cotinus ‘Ruby Glow’ offers long-lasting colour and architectural interest from spring to autumn in a neat, compact form.
