Carpinus betulus Pleached Standard – Living Architecture for Gardens
Carpinus betulus, the European Hornbeam, is a time-honoured choice for pleaching thanks to its strength, fine branching, and adaptability. This pleached standard form, with a clear 150 cm stem and a 120 Tall ×150 cm Wide frame, delivers instant architectural structure and practical screening.
In spring, neat, ribbed leaves emerge fresh green, creating a dense, formal canopy. Through summer, the foliage provides privacy, shade, and elegance in structured plantings. In autumn, the tree glows golden yellow, while the leaves often hang on into winter, extending the screen effect. Even bare in winter, the trained framework maintains its form and order.
