Iris

Iris

Clump forming perennials that nowadays tends to get forgotten about.

They have lovely strap like green foliage and on upright, sometimes arching stems are beautiful flowers that have mainly 3 petals around the centre sometimes they are even bearded.

The name Iris is taken from the Greeks and means rainbow as there are so many different colour variations and varieties.

Where to Site Your Iris

Plant in mixed borders, if you choose the right variety, they are ideal for ponds as the roots can improve the water by consuming all the nutrient pollution.

How to Grow and Look after Your Iris

They are easy to grow and tend to like it on the damp side in sun or semi shade.

They don’t need any mulch as this will retain moisture and too much can cause the rhizomes to rot.

Prune back any foliage in the autumn this reduces the chance of any pests and diseases in winter

Divide the Iris every 3/4 years
