Helleborus or Christmas Rose

Evergreen perennials that have dark green sometimes mottled, cut foliage and beautiful large saucer cupped flowers that are born from autumn all the way through to spring. The perfect perennial for the non-gardener, they require minimal work. It is said that helleborus nigra known as Christmas rose due to an old story that the perennial sprouted in the snow from the tears of a young girl who had no gift to give the Christ child in Bethlehem.

They really are an easy perennial they can be planted and left to their own devices whilst you enjoy the flowers when everything else looks miserable. They thrive in shade as well as a little sun and like heavy clay and normal soils.
