Taxus baccata is a classic, slow-growing evergreen conifer ideal for formal hedging and topiary. Its dense, dark green foliage clips beautifully, forming crisp lines and elegant shapes that suit traditional, architectural, or modern gardens. It creates an excellent privacy screen and is one of the longest-lived hedge species in the UK.

Yew tolerates shade better than most conifers and thrives in a wide range of well-drained soils, including chalky or sandy ground. While slow to establish, it becomes extremely dense and easy to maintain once settled. Fully hardy and deer-resistant, it also produces small red arils in autumn, which are attractive to birds (note: all parts except the flesh of the berries are toxic if ingested).
