Jasminum officinale – The Fragrant Star of Summer
Jasminum officinale, often called Poet’s Jasmine or Common Jasmine, is the embodiment of summer romance in the garden. From early summer through to early autumn, it produces clouds of pure white, star-shaped flowers, each releasing an intoxicating, sweet fragrance that drifts through warm evenings.
This vigorous, deciduous climber is ideal for clothing pergolas, trellises, arches, or sunny walls, where its slender stems and lush green foliage create a fresh backdrop for the dazzling blooms. A favourite for both cottage and Mediterranean-style gardens, it’s as at home scrambling through other plants as it is taking centre stage in a scented display.
