Heuchera ‘Melting Fire’ – A Fiery Splash of Colour for Your Garden
Heuchera ‘Melting Fire’ is an exceptional perennial that brings intense colour and dramatic foliage to your garden year-round. With its rich, fiery red leaves that turn to glowing orange and amber hues as the season progresses, this coral bell variety offers a stunning visual display. The unique, heat-tolerant foliage is complemented by small, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the leaves in late spring, adding even more texture and charm. Whether used as a striking focal point, a border accent, or a container plant, 'Melting Fire' is perfect for bringing both colour and contrast to shaded or partially sunny spots.
Why Grow Heuchera ‘Melting Fire’?
Fiery Foliage – Vibrant red and orange leaves with hints of amber and gold create a dynamic, ever-changing display throughout the year.
Delicate Spring Flowers – Tiny, bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage in late spring, attracting pollinators and adding a touch of softness.
Compact & Versatile – This low-growing, mounding perennial is perfect for borders, containers, or as ground cover in shaded or partially sunny areas.
Heat & Drought Tolerant – Unlike many other perennials, ‘Melting Fire’ thrives in both sunny and partly shaded conditions, and is highly drought-tolerant once established.
Low Maintenance – Hardy and easy to care for, this plant requires minimal attention once settled, making it ideal for busy gardeners or beginner landscapers.
Where to Site Your Heuchera ‘Melting Fire’
Heuchera ‘Melting Fire’ thrives in partial to full shade, though it will tolerate some morning sun. It’s perfect for adding bold colour to shaded borders, woodland gardens, or under trees and shrubs. This perennial also excels in containers, where its striking foliage can be showcased as a focal point.
How to Grow and Care for Your Heuchera ‘Melting Fire’
Soil – Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with good organic matter, but adapts to a wide range of soil types, including slightly acidic or neutral conditions.
Light – Best in partial to full shade, though it will tolerate a bit of morning sun. In hot climates, some afternoon shade will prevent leaf scorch.
Watering – Water regularly during the first growing season to establish strong roots. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant, requiring less frequent watering.
Maintenance:
-
Cut Back After Flowering – Remove spent flowers and dead leaves in late autumn to tidy up the plant for the winter.
-
Mulch Annually – Mulch in the spring to retain moisture and keep roots cool in summer.
-
Divide Every Few Years – Divide in early spring or autumn if the plant becomes overcrowded to maintain healthy growth.
Perfect Plant Combinations
Heuchera ‘Melting Fire’ pairs beautifully with other shade-loving perennials like Hostas, Astilbe, Tiarella, and Brunnera, creating a rich and vibrant foliage contrast. For more drama, combine with ornamental grasses like Hakonechloa or Carex, or with silvery-leaved plants like Artemisia for a striking, textural display.
