Davidia involucrata – The Enchanting Dove Tree with Its Iconic Fluttering Bracts
Davidia involucrata, commonly known as the Dove Tree or Handkerchief Tree, is a magnificent deciduous tree celebrated for its unique and unforgettable floral display. In late spring, it produces large, creamy-white bracts that elegantly hang like fluttering handkerchiefs or doves, creating a captivating spectacle that draws admiration from all who see it.
Beyond its stunning flowers, the Dove Tree features large, heart-shaped green leaves that turn vibrant shades of yellow and gold in autumn, extending its seasonal interest well beyond flowering.
This medium-sized tree typically reaches 10–15 metres in height, making it an excellent specimen for spacious gardens, parks, or arboretums. It thrives best in well-drained, fertile soil and prefers a sheltered position with full sun to partial shade.
