Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ – Deep Purple Salvia with Striking Dark Stems

Salvia nemorosa ‘Caradonna’ is one of the most popular hardy salvias, renowned for its intense violet-purple flower spikes and distinctive near-black stems. Flowering from early summer into autumn, it provides a long-lasting display of colour and vertical interest in borders and naturalistic planting schemes.

The elegant flower spikes rise above aromatic grey-green foliage, creating strong architectural lines and dramatic contrast. The dark stems make the vibrant purple flowers appear even richer, giving this variety exceptional garden presence.

Highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, ‘Caradonna’ is an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Regular deadheading encourages repeat flowering, often producing several flushes of blooms throughout the season.

Its compact upright habit makes it ideal for the middle of sunny borders, prairie-style planting, gravel gardens, and cottage garden schemes. The flowers also make excellent cut stems for indoor arrangements.

Thriving in full sun, it prefers well-drained soil and becomes drought tolerant once established. Hardy, reliable, and easy to maintain, it returns year after year with increasing impact.

Elegant, colourful, and pollinator-friendly, Salvia ‘Caradonna’ is a garden favourite for adding rich colour and structure throughout the summer months.
