Pachysandra terminalis

This invaluable evergreen ground cover provides the perfect solution for shaded areas where other plants struggle. The glossy, dark green foliage creates dense mats that suppress weeds effectively, while the plant's spreading habit ensures excellent coverage with minimal maintenance.

Seasonal Highlights

The evergreen foliage provides constant ground coverage throughout the year. Small white flowers appear in spring, adding a subtle seasonal highlight. The glossy leaves remain attractive in all seasons, including winter when many other plants lose their appeal.

Key Features

  • Excellent evergreen ground cover for shade
  • Glossy dark green foliage year-round
  • Spreads steadily to suppress weeds
  • Extremely hardy and low maintenance
  • Tolerates dry shade once established

Perfect For

Ideal for covering difficult shaded areas under trees, along north-facing walls, and in woodland gardens. Excellent for steep banks and areas where mowing is impractical. Works well as underplanting for shrubs and as edge softening along pathways.

Growing Tips

Plant in partial to full shade in any reasonable soil. Tolerates dry shade once established but benefits from moisture during establishment. Space plants 20-30cm apart for quicker coverage. Water regularly in first season. Very low maintenance - simply tidy up any winter-damaged leaves in spring.

Looks Great With

Perfect companion for spring bulbs which emerge through the foliage carpet. Complements ferns, hostas and shade-loving shrubs. Works beautifully with hellebores and provides evergreen structure beneath deciduous trees.

An essential plant for creating low-maintenance ground cover in challenging shaded locations throughout the garden.
