Lavandula angustifolia ‘Vera’ – Classic English Lavender with Fragrant Summer Flowers
Lavandula angustifolia ‘Vera’, often regarded as one of the true English lavenders, is a timeless garden favourite valued for its rich fragrance and elegant summer display. From early to mid-summer, upright stems carry slender spikes of violet-purple flowers that rise above neat mounds of silvery-grey foliage.
The aromatic leaves release their calming scent when brushed or warmed by the sun, making ‘Vera’ perfect for planting along pathways, near seating areas, or in containers by doorways. Its naturally compact and bushy habit lends itself beautifully to edging borders, creating low hedges, or forming part of a traditional cottage-style planting scheme.
Highly attractive to bees and butterflies, this variety plays an important role in wildlife-friendly gardens while also offering the classic lavender scent so often associated with English summers. Once established, it is drought tolerant and thrives in poor, well-drained soils where other plants may struggle.
Hardy and dependable, Lavender ‘Vera’ performs best in full sun and requires minimal maintenance beyond light pruning after flowering to maintain its neat shape. Elegant, fragrant, and wonderfully versatile, it remains one of the most reliable choices for long-lasting summer colour and scent.
