Hamamelis × intermedia ‘Diane’ – Winter’s Scarlet Flame
When the garden lies quiet and bare, Hamamelis × intermedia ‘Diane’ comes to life in a blaze of colour. From the depths of winter into early spring, its branches are wreathed in spidery ribbons of deep copper-red, glowing like embers against the pale winter light. These elegant, crinkled flowers release a delicate, sweet fragrance that drifts on the cold air, adding another layer of magic to the season.
‘Diane’ is more than just a fleeting winter spectacle – she’s a year-round beauty. In summer, her broad green leaves create a fresh backdrop for your borders, and in autumn, they ignite once more in shades of amber, orange, and crimson. This makes her an outstanding choice for gardens that prize seasonal change and lasting interest.
Hardy and low-maintenance, ‘Diane’ thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil, in full sun or partial shade. Whether grown as a feature shrub, within a mixed winter border, or at the edge of a woodland garden, she brings an artist’s palette of colour and a gardener’s dream of fragrance to the gloomiest days of the year.
