Liriope muscari ‘Big Blue’ – Bold Violet Spikes and Evergreen Groundcover for Shade
Liriope muscari ‘Big Blue’ is a wonderfully reliable, evergreen perennial that thrives where many plants struggle — especially in dry shade. Forming dense clumps of glossy, strap-like leaves, it provides clean year-round structure and a lush, grassy texture that looks good in every season.
In late summer to early autumn, strong upright spikes of rich violet-blue flowers rise above the foliage, adding a welcome burst of colour just as many perennials are beginning to fade. These long-lasting blooms are followed by shiny black berries that sit neatly among the leaves, extending the season of interest well into winter.
Extremely robust and low-maintenance, ‘Big Blue’ handles a wide range of conditions, from full shade to partial sun, and thrives under trees, in woodland edges, along borders, or as a mass-planted groundcover. Its evergreen nature and tidy clumping habit make it perfect for softening pathways, filling awkward corners, or adding dependable structure to planting schemes.
Versatile, tough, and beautifully textured, Liriope ‘Big Blue’ is an invaluable plant for bringing colour and life to shaded or difficult parts of the garden.
