Carpinus betulus – Timeless Strength and Versatility
Carpinus betulus, known as the European Hornbeam, is a traditional, long-lived tree valued for its strength, resilience, and classic beauty. It is widely planted in both formal and natural landscapes thanks to its adaptability and ease of care.
In spring, ribbed, bright green leaves emerge, forming a dense, leafy canopy. Through summer, the foliage provides excellent shade and screening. In autumn, the leaves turn warm golden yellow, often persisting into winter in hedges where they add texture and shelter. The grey bark and fine, fluted trunk bring quiet interest year-round.
