Common name: Laurustinus
Viburnum tinus is a dense, evergreen shrub with glossy dark green foliage and a long flowering season. From late autumn through to spring, it produces clusters of pink-tinged white flowers, followed by small metallic-blue berries that are attractive to birds.
It’s a superb all-rounder for hedging, screening, or as a structural shrub in mixed borders. Its evergreen leaves provide year-round cover, and the winter flowers offer valuable seasonal interest when little else is in bloom.
Viburnum tinus is easy to grow in most soils and thrives in sun or partial shade. It tolerates coastal conditions, pollution, and some drought once established.
Ultimate height and spread:
2.5–3m × 2.5–3m (can be pruned to shape)
Position: Full sun to partial shade
Soil type: Moist, well-drained
Suitable for: Hedging, screening, borders, containers, wildlife-friendly gardens
