Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ – Bold Golden Foliage for Shady Borders
Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ is a timeless and much-loved perennial, prized for its large, heart-shaped leaves that mature to a rich golden yellow, framed by deep green margins. The foliage brightens shady areas beautifully, bringing warmth, contrast, and bold texture to borders, woodland gardens, and containers.
As the season progresses, the leaf colour intensifies, with the golden centres glowing more strongly in lighter shade. In midsummer, tall stems rise above the foliage carrying elegant spikes of soft lavender flowers, adding height and a gentle floral accent without distracting from the dramatic leaves. These blooms are also attractive to bees and pollinators.
Hardy, reliable, and long-lived, ‘Gold Standard’ thrives in partial to full shade and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Its strong clumping habit makes it ideal as a focal plant in shaded borders or massed together for a lush, layered effect. Once established, it requires very little care, returning bigger and better each year.
Bold, dependable, and endlessly useful, Hosta ‘Gold Standard’ is a standout foliage plant that brings colour and structure to the garden from spring through autumn.
