Yew – Taxus Baccata ‘Farmen’ Bonsai
A Striking Architectural Statement for the Garden or Patio
The Taxus Baccata ‘Farmen’ Bonsai is a masterfully shaped, evergreen specimen that brings an instant sense of age, artistry, and structure to any outdoor space. Grown from the classic English yew and sculpted into a cloud-pruned or tiered bonsai form, this plant blends traditional topiary with Japanese aesthetics for a bold, architectural effect. Whether used as a centrepiece in a contemporary garden or to enhance a formal landscape, this stunning yew delivers drama, elegance, and year-round presence.
Sculptural Beauty
Each ‘Farmen’ bonsai is individually shaped, creating a unique silhouette of layered, rounded pads that resemble cloud formations. These forms add dynamic structure and movement to the garden.
Year-Round Interest
With rich, deep green foliage that remains dense and vibrant through every season, this evergreen bonsai offers constant visual appeal – whether framed by snow in winter or set against summer blooms.
Classic Yet Contemporary
Its heritage as a traditional English yew is balanced with a modern aesthetic thanks to the bonsai form. Ideal for contemporary garden design, Japanese-inspired spaces, and minimalist settings.
Long-Lived & Hardy
Yew trees are exceptionally long-lived, slow-growing, and fully hardy in the UK climate. Once established, they require very little upkeep and will thrive for decades.
Low Maintenance for a Statement Plant
Despite their refined appearance, these bonsai yews are surprisingly easy to care for. Occasional pruning maintains their shape, and they are tolerant of a range of conditions once established.
As a feature plant in gravel gardens, courtyards, or zen gardens
In raised beds or planters at entrances or patios
As a focal point in minimal or formal borders
To anchor contemporary landscaping schemes
Light: Prefers full sun to part shade
Soil: Any well-drained soil – thrives in chalky, loamy, or sandy soils
Watering: Water regularly in the first year. Mature plants are drought-tolerant
Feeding: Apply a slow-release fertiliser in spring
Pruning: Light shaping annually in late spring or late summer to maintain form
Sizes vary depending on the shaping and age of the bonsai, but typical Taxus ‘Farmen’ Bonsai specimens range from 1.2m to 1.8m in height, with layered pads or domes artistically spaced along the trunk. No two plants are identical, which adds to the charm and uniqueness of each piece.
Whether flanking a front door, creating a serene corner in a courtyard, or standing as a solo showpiece in a gravel bed, the Taxus ‘Farmen’ Bonsai is an investment in beauty and structure. Its serene, sculpted appearance offers decades of elegance, presence, and low-maintenance appeal for discerning gardeners and landscape designers alike.
