Why Choose the Yew Greenland Ball?
Perfectly Shaped Evergreen Sphere
Expertly clipped into a tidy 25cm ball, this topiary delivers immediate impact and timeless appeal, whether used solo or in a formal arrangement.
Year-Round Colour and Structure
With rich, dark green foliage that stays vibrant through winter, the Yew Ball adds continuity and definition in every season.
Hardy and Long-Lived
Taxus baccata is one of the toughest evergreen shrubs available, with outstanding cold resistance and incredible longevity.
Low Maintenance Topiary
Slow-growing and easy to shape, the Yew Ball requires just one or two trims per year to keep its compact, neat form.
Highly Versatile
Use in containers on patios, at entrances, or as a formal feature within the garden – its classic ball shape suits every style, from parterre planting to contemporary layouts.
Where to Site Your Yew Greenland Ball
The Yew Greenland Ball thrives in full sun to full shade and is adaptable to a range of garden soils. It performs best in well-drained, fertile soil and can be used as a focal point in borders, accent pieces in formal designs, or evergreen anchors in container displays. Flank a pathway or position in pairs at a doorway for a bold, symmetrical look.
How to Grow and Care for Your Yew Greenland Ball
Soil – Prefers fertile, well-drained soil but is tolerant of most conditions including chalk, clay, and sandy soils. Avoid waterlogged spots.
Light – Will grow well in full sun to deep shade, making it ideal for both open and sheltered areas.
Watering – Water regularly during the first season while roots establish. Once mature, Yew is drought-tolerant and rarely needs watering.
Pruning – Clip once or twice a year (spring and/or late summer) to maintain its shape. Use sharp shears and trim lightly to preserve the ball’s clean form.
Feeding – A slow-release fertilizer in spring will promote healthy foliage and steady growth.
Design Tips & Companion Plants
Pair the Yew Greenland Ball with Buxus, Lavender, or Hydrangeas for a balanced contrast between structure and softness. It works beautifully alongside perennial borders or planted in rows to frame paths or gateways. For a striking container combination, underplant with trailing ivy or seasonal colour such as violas or heuchera.
The Yew Greenland Ball is a classic design feature that brings architectural form, evergreen interest, and a sense of permanence to the garden. Whether used in pairs, clusters, or as single highlights, it’s a smart investment in timeless style and subtle drama.
