Dicksonia antarctica – 6 Foot Tree Fern for Tropical Garden Impact

Dicksonia antarctica, commonly known as the Tasmanian Tree Fern, is one of the most dramatic and sought-after architectural plants for the garden. Supplied as an impressive 6 foot trunk, it instantly creates a mature tropical atmosphere with its elegant canopy of arching feathery fronds.

The thick fibrous trunk develops slowly over many years, giving each specimen a unique and characterful appearance. From the crown, fresh green fronds unfurl each spring, forming a lush umbrella of finely divided foliage that adds softness, movement, and structure to shaded planting schemes.

Perfect for jungle-style and woodland gardens, tree ferns combine beautifully with bold foliage plants such as fatsia, musa, tetrapanax, and ferns, creating layered exotic displays with year-round impact.

Thriving in moist, humus-rich soil, Dicksonia antarctica performs best in sheltered positions protected from strong winds and drying conditions. Regular watering into the crown during warmer months is essential to keep the trunk and developing fronds healthy.

Although hardy in many UK gardens, winter protection is recommended during severe frosts, particularly around the crown.

Architectural, timeless, and full of exotic character, a 6 foot Dicksonia antarctica is an exceptional feature plant for creating a mature tropical garden instantly.
