Common name: Star Jasmine
A highly decorative evergreen climber with glossy, dark green leaves that take on bronze-red tints in winter. Trachelospermum jasminoides is prized for its masses of highly fragrant, star-shaped white flowers, which bloom from mid to late summer and fill the garden with a sweet, jasmine-like scent.
This elegant, twining climber is perfect for covering walls, trellises, pergolas, or fences. Its year-round foliage provides excellent screening or architectural interest even when not in flower. Slow to establish at first but becomes vigorous with age.
Thrives best in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Itβs hardy in most UK gardens, especially in sheltered, south- or west-facing positions. Drought-tolerant once established and responds well to training and light pruning.
Ultimate height and spread:
6β9m high Γ 2β4m wide in 10β15 years
Position: Full sun to partial shade (best flowering in sun)
Soil type: Moist but well-drained, fertile
Suitable for: Climbing walls, trellis, containers, scented gardens, evergreen screening
