Thymus citriodorus – Lemon Thyme with Fragrant Foliage
Thymus citriodorus, commonly known as Lemon Thyme, is a compact evergreen herb valued for its aromatic foliage and delicate summer flowers. The small green leaves release a refreshing lemon fragrance when brushed or crushed, making it a favourite for both ornamental planting and culinary use.
In summer, clusters of tiny pale pink flowers appear above the foliage, attracting bees and other pollinators while adding a soft seasonal display. The fine, low-growing habit forms neat mats of foliage that spread gently across the ground.
Lemon thyme is particularly well suited to herb gardens, gravel planting, and sunny borders, where its fragrant leaves and tidy growth can be appreciated. It also performs beautifully in containers or planted along pathways where its scent is released as it is brushed past.
Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, Thymus citriodorus is drought tolerant once established and requires very little maintenance. Occasional light trimming after flowering helps keep the plant compact and encourages fresh growth.
Fragrant, useful, and easy to grow, Lemon Thyme is a versatile herb that combines ornamental appeal with culinary value.
