Skimmia or Rutaceae are evergreen shrubs, ideal for planting in a border or woodland garden. They bear small star-shaped flowers in spring, some of which are scented. These are followed, on female plants by round fleshy, red to black fruits.

Some species such as Skimmia japonica do require both a male and female plant in order to fruit. Leaves are aromatic, alternate and often form clusters which surround the flowers.

Skimmia require moist fertile soil and prefer shade or partial shade.

Where to Position Your Skimmia japonica 'Rubella'

This Skimmia thrives in partial to full shade, making it an excellent choice for darker garden corners. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil and should be planted in a sheltered position to protect it from harsh winds. 'Rubella' works beautifully in shaded borders, woodland gardens, or even in patio containers where it's rich red buds and glossy leaves provide winter interest.

Growth and Maintenance

Skimmia 'Rubella' is slow-growing, reaching around 0.75 to 1 meter in both height and spread. Its compact size makes it easy to manage, with minimal pruning required—simply remove any damaged or dead branches in spring. How long does delivery take?

Where will you leave my plants?

We will leave your order at the front of your property, Parcelforce may
leave your items in a safe place if you let us know, Pallet couriers
will require a flat hard surface to deliver to, no gravel or soil, a
driveway or parking spot would be best. Most importantly Deliveries by
pallet courier will require access for a large truck (bin lorry sized)
to get near the delivery point. Deliveries sent on our own transport may come in a small van or larger truck.
