Pyrus salicifolia ‘Pendula’ – Graceful Silvery Weeping Pear for Elegant Structure and Year-Round Interest
Pyrus salicifolia ‘Pendula’, commonly known as the Weeping Silver Pear, is a distinctive ornamental tree admired for its graceful, cascading branches and narrow, silvery-grey foliage. With its elegant weeping form and year-round architectural beauty, this small tree brings a touch of sophistication to formal gardens, courtyards, and modern landscapes. Its subtle spring blossoms, silver-toned leaves, and neat form make it a favorite among designers seeking structure and movement in the garden.
Seasonal Beauty & Growth
Spring:
In mid- to late spring, ‘Pendula’ produces delicate creamy-white flowers, similar to those of wild pears, often visited by pollinators. These contrast beautifully against the emerging silver-grey foliage, creating a soft, shimmering appearance.
Summer:
Throughout the summer, its slender, willow-like leaves remain a standout feature, casting dappled light and creating gentle motion with every breeze.
Autumn:
Foliage may take on subtle yellow tones before falling, and small inedible fruits may appear, adding textural interest into late autumn.
Winter:
Even after leaf-fall, the graceful, pendulous branches continue to provide strong architectural form, standing out beautifully against frosty or misty backdrops.
