Prunus lusitanica ‘Tico’
Sophisticated, evergreen, and richly coloured, Prunus lusitanica ‘Tico’ is a modern take on the classic Portuguese laurel. Unlike the familiar deep-green form, ‘Tico’ produces glossy foliage that emerges a striking burgundy-red, gradually maturing to deep green while retaining a rich, warm undertone.
In late spring to early summer, slender clusters of small white flowers appear, subtly scented and attractive to pollinators. These are followed by red berries that ripen to black, adding seasonal interest and feeding garden wildlife.
Compact, dense, and naturally bushy, ‘Tico’ makes an excellent choice for hedging, screening, or as a smart evergreen specimen. Its bold new foliage makes it especially effective in contemporary planting schemes where a touch of colour and texture is needed year-round. Hardy and low-maintenance, it’s easy to grow in a wide range of soils and conditions.
