Planting & Care Guide
Position: Miscanthus sinensis 'Ruby Cute' thrives in full sun to partial shade. For the best flowering and vibrant foliage, plant it in a sunny location where it can receive at least 6 hours of sunlight daily.
Soil: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil. It is adaptable to a range of soil types, including loamy, sandy, and slightly acidic to neutral soil, as long as the soil is well-drained.
Watering: Water regularly when newly planted to help establish strong roots. Once established, 'Ruby Cute' is drought-tolerant, but it will benefit from occasional watering during dry spells to maintain healthy growth and blooms.
Maintenance:
Pruning – In early spring, cut back the previous season’s foliage to the ground to make way for fresh new growth. This helps keep the plant tidy and encourages vigorous growth.
Mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds. Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plant in late fall to help protect the roots during winter.
Fertilizing is generally unnecessary unless the soil is nutrient-poor. If desired, a light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring can help promote healthy growth and enhance flower production.
Perfect Plant Combinations
Miscanthus sinensis 'Ruby Cute' pairs beautifully with other smaller ornamental grasses, such as Pennisetum (Fountain Grass) or Carex (Sedge), for a layered, textural look. It also combines well with perennial flowers like Echinacea, Sedum, or Rudbeckia, where the vibrant flowerheads contrast beautifully with the bold blooms. For a more naturalistic look, plant it alongside shrubs like Spiraea or Hydrangea, where its compact size and delicate plumes complement the broader forms of the shrubs
