Hippophae Friesdorfer Orange

Sea Buckthorn

Hippophae  are unusual shrubs that have an exoctic feel and will enrich any gaden.

Hippophae rhamnoides Friesdorfer Orange are also known as Sea Buckthorn. An excellent choice for gardeners looking for a tough, low-maintenance plant with vibrant ornamental value and a host of practical benefits. Its bright orange berries provide stunning visual appeal, while offering health benefits as an edible superfood. The shrub is highly adaptable to harsh conditions, supports wildlife, and improves soil fertility, making it suitable for a wide range of garden environments.

Friesdorfer Orange is a semi evergreen shrub that is grown for its profusion of bright orange berries, which ripen in late summer and can persist into winter. These berries add a splash of color to the garden, especially during autumn and winter, when many other plants have lost their leaves or flowers. The narrow, silver-green leaves provide a striking contrast to the orange berries, giving the shrub a unique and eye-catching appearance. This silvery sheen adds an interesting texture and color to the landscape. Height can reach upto 3m

The berries of Hippophae 'Friesdorfer Orange' are a valuable food source for birds, particularly in the colder months when food is scarce. By planting this variety, you can attract a wide range of bird species to your garden, supporting local wildlife. While Hippophae is primarily valued for its fruit, its small, yellowish flowers in spring are pollinated by wind and attract beneficial insects.

Hippophae 'Friesdorfer Orange' is extremely tough and resilient. It thrives in a wide range of conditions, including poor, sandy, or rocky soils, and can withstand harsh environments such as coastal regions and windy areas. Sea buckthorn has the ability to fix nitrogen in the soil through its roots, improving soil fertility. This makes Hippophae 'Friesdorfer Orange' a valuable plant for enriching poor or depleted soils, and it can be particularly useful in regenerative landscaping or permaculture systems. Sea buckthorn has a deep and extensive root system, which helps stabilize soil and prevent erosion. This makes it ideal for planting on slopes, embankments, or other areas prone to soil erosion. Its ability to withstand salt spray and strong winds makes Hippophae 'Friesdorfer Orange' a great option for coastal gardens or areas exposed to the elements.

Once established, sea buckthorn is highly drought-tolerant, making it an excellent choice for dry gardens or areas where water conservation is important.

The shrub does not require much pruning unless you want to shape it for a hedge. Its natural growth habit is dense and upright.
