Why Choose Hebe ‘Wild Romance’?
1. Striking Foliage Colour
The glossy, dark green leaves are edged with dramatic burgundy-red tints, intensifying in autumn and winter for all-season appeal.
2. Compact, Neat Growth
Reaching around 40–50cm in height and spread, it maintains a dense, bushy form that requires little to no pruning.
3. Year-Round Interest
As an evergreen shrub, 'Wild Romance' keeps its vibrant foliage all year, offering structure and colour even in the bleakest months.
4. Hardy and Low-Maintenance
Suitable for UK gardens, it is hardy in most areas and thrives with minimal care. Ideal for busy gardeners or low-maintenance designs.
5. Versatile Use
Excellent in mixed borders, modern schemes, coastal gardens, or as a striking container plant. Its foliage contrasts beautifully with softer grasses or silver-toned plants.
How to Grow Hebe ‘Wild Romance’
Position:
Prefers full sun to partial shade. For the richest foliage colour, plant in a sunny spot.
Soil:
Well-drained soil is essential. Tolerant of poor or sandy soil once established.
Watering:
Water regularly during the first season to establish a strong root system. After that, it is relatively drought-tolerant.
Pruning:
Minimal pruning required. Light trim in late spring can help shape if necessary, but it naturally holds a tidy form.
Hardiness:
Generally hardy in milder areas (down to around -5°C). In colder regions, provide some protection during harsh winters or grow in containers that can be moved to shelter.
Design Tips
-
Pair with silver-leaved plants like Senecio ‘Angel Wings’ or Lavandula for contrast.
-

-
Perfect for coastal gardens, thanks to its tolerance of wind and salt-laden air.
-
Looks striking as part of a contemporary planting scheme with ornamental grasses and minimalist lines.
