Ginkgo - maidenhair tree - are also know as the living fossil tree as they are dating back to 270 million years ago. Ginkgo are an unusual conifer as they don't have the usual needle like foliage, instead the leaves are lovely apple green colour, fan shaped with splits in, that in autumn changes to yellow. The female trees have yellow fruits that contain a large single seed - however the scent is very unpleasant. They are deep rooted, resistant to wind and snow and likes pretty much all spots of the garden.
