Eucalyptus × gunnii ‘Silverana’ – Silver Foliage with Year-Round Interest
Description
Eucalyptus × gunnii ‘Silverana’ is a dwarf, aromatic evergreen valued for its striking foliage and architectural presence. Young leaves emerge silvery blue and round, later maturing to lance-shaped blue-green leaves. As it ages, the bark peels to reveal cream, pink, and pale-brown tones, adding year-round visual depth. In midsummer, clusters of small, fluffy white flowers appear, adding floral interest.
Size & Growth
It grows more slowly than typical E. gunnii varieties; expect full-grown height of around 7–12 m and a spread of 3–4 m over 10–20 years. When pruned annually in late March, it can be maintained as a compact shrub or standard.
Growing Conditions
Thrives in full sun with well-drained soil. Once established, it is drought-resistant and hardy to approximately –15 °C. It prefers a sheltered planting site, especially when young.
