Echinacea purpurea

Echinacea purpurea ‘Lakota Red’ – Bold Crimson Blooms for a Long-Lasting Summer Display

Echinacea purpurea ‘Lakota Red’ is a compact, hardy coneflower bursting with deep red to crimson blooms from mid-summer through early autumn. As part of the Lakota series, this perennial is prized for its vibrant colour, tidy habit, and exceptional appeal to pollinators. Its size makes it perfect for smaller borders, containers, and wildlife-friendly gardens, offering fiery floral displays with minimal maintenance.

Seasonal Beauty & Growth

Spring:

  • Forms a tight clump of dark green, lance-shaped leaves.

  • Fast-growing and establishes quickly, preparing for the summer bloom.

Summer:

  • Dazzles with bold, daisy-like flowers in tones of ruby red, crimson, and scarlet.

  • Central bronze-brown cones add structure and contrast.

  • Flowers continuously through summer, drawing in bees and butterflies.

Autumn:

  • Blooms continue into early autumn, gradually fading while seedheads form.

  • Leave spent flowers for architectural winter interest and food for birds.

Winter:

  • Plant dies back to the ground. Mulch in colder regions for added protection.

  • Fully hardy and returns reliably each spring.
