-
Autumn: As temperatures cool, the leaves transition to a rich, deep red or bronze hue, creating a spectacular autumn display that adds dimension and color to your garden.
-
Winter: While the plant dies back in winter, its compact form and rich foliage make it an appealing choice for planting alongside evergreen shrubs or other winter-interest plants.
Structure & Form
-
Summer Sky is a bushy perennial that grows to about 75 cm in height, forming a neat, dense mound of foliage.
- The deep green leaves are attractive throughout the growing season, offering a lush backdrop to its striking blue flowers and making it ideal for mass plantings or as a groundcover.
- It thrives in a mounding, spreading habit, making it excellent for softening garden edges, filling gaps, or cascading over walls and containers.
Perfect for Various Landscapes
-
Borders & Flower Beds: Adds a stunning burst of color to mixed borders, where its blue flowers and vibrant autumn foliage can be enjoyed in combination with other plants.
-
Groundcover & Slopes: Perfect for groundcover, Ceratostigma Summer Sky spreads quickly to fill in gaps and is great for stabilizing slopes or adding texture to areas in need of coverage.
-
Containers & Hanging Baskets: Its trailing nature makes it a wonderful choice for containers or hanging baskets, where it spills over the edges with an eye-catching blue and red display.
-
Pollinator Gardens: The abundance of blue flowers attracts bees and butterflies, making it a fantastic choice for pollinator-friendly gardens.
Growing Conditions & Care
-
Position: Prefers full sun to partial shade, thriving in bright, sunny spots but tolerating some shade, especially in hotter climates.
-
Soil: Grows best in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil. It is relatively adaptable and can tolerate a range of soil types.
-
Hardiness: Hardy in most temperate climates, Ceratostigma Summer Sky can withstand cold winters and is a great option for low-maintenance gardens.
-
Maintenance: Very low-maintenance, requiring minimal care. Deadheading spent flowers can encourage more blooms, and a light pruning in spring helps tidy the plant and encourages new growth.
