Berberis thunbergii 'Diabolicum'
Common name: Japanese Barberry
An eye-catching deciduous shrub prized for its vivid chartreuse-yellow foliage, which holds its bright colour throughout the growing season. In autumn, the leaves develop warm orange and red tints before falling, adding excellent seasonal interest. Small yellow flowers appear in spring, followed by red berries that are attractive to birds.
Compact and slow-growing, 'Diabolicum' is ideal for adding contrast to mixed borders, rock gardens, or as low hedging. Its naturally neat, rounded habit requires minimal pruning, and it tolerates a wide range of soils. The thorny stems offer added value for security planting.
Plant in full sun for best leaf colour. Performs well in most well-drained soils and is fully hardy throughout the UK.
