Aucuba japonica 'Variegata'

Common name: Spotted Laurel | Gold Dust Plant

Aucuba japonica ‘Variegata’ is a hardy, evergreen shrub grown for its glossy green leaves heavily speckled with golden-yellow. Its bright, cheerful foliage lights up shady areas, making it an excellent choice for difficult spots like dry shade or north-facing walls.

This slow-growing shrub has a bushy, rounded habit and can be used as informal hedging, a backdrop in borders, or in containers for year-round colour. Female plants may produce small, glossy red berries in autumn if a male is nearby.

Extremely tolerant of urban pollution, sea winds, dry soils, and deep shade, it’s one of the most resilient evergreens for low-maintenance planting.
