Alnus glutinosa 6-8 Girth Standard

Alnus are vigorous deciduous trees and large shrubs with rounded leaves and often conspicuous catkins in winter. Alnus thrive best in moist but well drained soil and prefer a position in full sun. 

Alnus Glutinosa known as black or common alder are under estimaed trees they have an attractive conical shape, maintenace free, their roots have nitroegn fixing nodules that will actually improve soil fertility. They are wonderfully adaptable to areas that are damp / boggy as the roots can tolerate being flooding for weeks.Not to mention the fact that a lo of our wildlife depends on them as they provide shelter and food for birds, bees, caterpillars, butterflies and more. 

Glutinosa has purple / grey leaf buds open to dark green foliage with serrated edges. Flowers are on catkins which appear spring time. Alders have both male and female flowers are found on the same tree. Male catkins are pendulous and yellow. Female catkins are green and oval-shaped and are grouped in numbers of three to eight. They prefer to be planted in full sun to partial shade, they do not reuire feeding, if they need pruning this can be done late winter to early spring. The height of an Alnus is 6m over 20 years.

No, we measure from the top of the pot to the tip of the plant except for some of the instant planted screens, in this case it will be stated in the description

How long does delivery take?

Most orders are delivered in just a few days, Smaller items are often sent with Parcelforce on a next day service, Larger items should allow up to 10 days due to the size of the items they often have to be sent on our own transport.

Where will you leave my plants?

We will leave your order at the front of your property, Parcelforce may
leave your items in a safe place if you let us know, Pallet couriers
will require a flat hard surface to deliver to, no gravel or soil, a
driveway or parking spot would be best. Most importantly Deliveries by
pallet courier will require access for a large truck (bin lorry sized)
to get near the delivery point. Deliveries sent on our own transport may come in a small van or larger truck.
